There’s more to life than 60's garage rock, spectacular shoes and well-applied eyeliner....there’s bears. Even trapped in the heart of the modern world, we may still find ourselves at the mercy of mother nature... Joshua Third and Tomethy Furse of The Horrors discuss.

Joshua Third: I really like fishing. I like bears as well. I’d really like to see some bears, because I’ve never seen a live one...but apparently we don’t have time.

Truth.Explosion.Magazine: Well you know if you ever do come back, you could go a few hours north of here and park your car at a garbage dump and watch the bears.
JT: Can they get up on your car then?

TEM: They can. It’s a little dangerous I guess.

JT: But if you punch a bear on the nose it fucks off.

TEM: I thought that was a shark.

JT: It works for bears too.

Tomethy Furse: I think it works for people as well.

JT: My dad’s a German oil baron, and he always goes out and shoots bears, but I’m not really down with that, I just want to see them. He’d always want to take me out hunting but I don’t want to watch dead bears, only live ones.

TEM: You could see them in the zoo I suppose.

JT: Yeah it’s not the same though. Did you hear about Bruno the bear?

TEM: No.

JT: He was actually from Scandinavia, and he wandered into Northern Germany. And they were kind of cool with it, they’re like “it’s a bear, we haven’t had bears in Germany since the late 1800's” ...the last bear they had, they shot it. So anyway, the bear wanders in, and he starts eating all the livestock...

TF: No, but he didn’t even eat livestock... it killed a sheep, and then ate a hamster in a cage.

JT: No no no, it just trod on it. But Bruno had really high taste, he’d rip the sheep open and just eat the liver and the heart I think, he’d leave the rest.

TEM: Gruesome.

TF: So they hired trackers from all over the world to come and track this bear. But they couldn’t catch it. And it became this huge thing, it became like a cult thing all over Europe, you know, like “Go Bruno, go Bruno!”

JT: Yeah, Bruno the bear, giving them all the slip, wandered down to a town, sat outside the police station, and the police would all just be stuck in the station, saying “We’re not going out there”. And then it tried to play hide and seek with all the people, hiding behind cars....

TEM: This is just getting ridiculous, that didn’t happen.

JT: No, it’s true though! Just go on BBC News, you’ll find all about it, it was the most amazing thing... and then they shot it....they got bored with it, so they just shot it.

TF: It happens quite a lot actually, it happened with a whale, it swam up the Thames, and just got stuck right in the middle of London, and it had arthritis or something, so it couldn’t move.

JT: Yeah, people would spend their entire day just like looking after it. It’s dead now, that is actually in a museum.

TEM: Alright, what’s the “truth” about The Horrors?

TF: The truth is that there’s a lot of falsities about us. The lie is that we don’t care about music, that we’re only interested in the way we look...I think the truth is that people get their own way a lot of the time about us.

JT: The truth about The Horrors is that The Horrors are not a collection of five people to make music...

TEM: Oh no?

JT: No. The Horrors are a spaceship.
